Newton County, in Northwest Arkansas, is a land of special beauty with bluffs and boulders and the magnificent Buffalo National River, and is an outdoor enthusiast’s ideal spot for canoeing, hiking, caving, rock climbing, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, wildlife and bird watching, and photography. The southern half of the county lies within the Ozark National Forest, while much of the northern half is within the boundaries of the Buffalo National River, a national park that safeguards this rare, free-flowing river. This results in approximately 60% unpopulated land filled with scenery unspoiled by modern changes, and this environment is treasured by those who live here.

There are no stoplights, train tracks or rush hour traffic in Newton County. Instead you’ll find clean air, a slower pace, low property taxes and low cost of living. Yet you’re only 19 miles to Harrison, population 13,000, with its hospital, mall, Wal-Mart supercenter, and a variety of other shops and services.

The average rainfall is 45.93 inches per year. Our four seasons are highlighted with the beautiful yellow and red foliage of various hardwoods in the fall; mild winters with usually one to three light snows or sleet of short duration; fresh greening and abundant wildflowers in the spring, and lazy long summer days where a cool dip in one of the rivers is only a short drive away.
